Research MCP: pilot guide
Understand the workflow, the information needed for a valid analysis and the current limits before connecting an assistant or integrating the API.
Pilot in development. End-to-end workflows in ChatGPT and Claude, SurveyCoder integration and the shared portal still require validation. General availability and commercial pricing have not been announced.
1. Arrange access
Contact the team to agree a pilot account, client and dataset. There is no public self-service setup advertised for this pilot yet.
- Use only the service URL and connection instructions supplied for your pilot.
- Research uses the /research-mcp/ endpoint with Streamable HTTP and an OAuth flow when configured.
- The older /mcp/sse service is a separate integration; its setup guide is not the Research setup guide.
- Do not paste credentials into a conversation or tool arguments.
2. Upload and inspect
The assistant requests research_upload_link. Open the private link to upload your .sav, then inspect the study catalogue before calculating.
- The pilot upload link is single-use and expires after 15 minutes.
- Direct transfer of an attachment from ChatGPT is not implemented in this workflow.
- Resolve variable labels and codes before selecting a segment. An age band is not an exact age.
- The preparation preview is a structural proposal. It does not approve the study assumptions or change the calculation.
3. Ask a precise question
A useful query states the outcome, comparison groups, filters, base and any weighting. Review these choices with the analyst.
- The REST study workflow is under /v2/research: load a study, read its catalogue and submit a query.
- Completed analyses can be retrieved with their evidence and Excel workbook.
- Use the schema supplied with your pilot for exact fields. Do not copy variable names from an example into a different study.
- The assistant explains the result; the statistical engine calculates the values.
4. Know the current limits
Development and pilot validation are ongoing. These are not launch commitments.
- Versioned, approved preparation and its use in queries remain in development.
- Authorized import from SurveyCoder and a shared account portal are planned.
- PowerPoint generation and a Gamma integration are not part of the Research server.
- Confirm dataset suitability, retention arrangements and pilot limits with the team before uploading. Prices and paid plans are not announced here.
